Lajčák at the ECFR meeting in Luxembourg on Ukraine, energy and relations with Russia

Heading the Slovak delegation at the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) meeting in Luxembourg, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajčák started his program through his participation at the round table of the Foreign Affairs Council of the EU today (October 20, 2014). The round table focused on developments in Ukraine, with a special emphasis on energy. EU foreign affairs ministers and ambassadors of selected EU member countries discussed ways to help Ukraine decrease its dependence on Russian energy supplies, especially through the reform of the Ukrainian energy sector. In this regard, Lajčák recalled the Slovak contribution to diversification of energy supplies to Ukraine.

A meeting with the Foreign Affairs Minister of the Republic of Philippines Alberto del Rosario kicked off the agenda of the second day of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajčák at the 10th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit in Milan today (October 17, 2014). The agenda was aimed at restoring the bilateral political dialogue, which has stagnated recently.

Lajčák at ASEM Summit in Milan: “The need for diversification of energy resources has never been so acute as today”

We are witnessing a global energy revolution characterized by the hunt for new resources, escalating energy prices, investments slowing down; but mainly by the emerging challenges related to the misuse of energy supplies for applying political pressure. Therefore, we must see energy security as a key priority requiring our lasting interest. This was said today (October 16, 2014) by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajčák in his address at the plenary session during the 10th ASEM Summit in Milan, where he heads the delegation of the Slovak Republic.
